The Clinics

Heavy rains and strong winds delayed the clinics in Matanzas Province. Finally, on June 14, 2012, the deworming clinic took place in a town of Colón. Dr. Sergio Chan who is a representative of Bayer Pharmaceutical for Cuba, supplied the medication. With the help of volunteers, Dr. Hanoi Dominguez took care of 32 dogs, two animals were also sterilized. There are plans to organize spay/neuter clinic for the area.

Helping hands are always welcomed

Ingrid -  always there
Two days later, on June 16, 2012 in Matanzas City, a free spay neuter clinic was open for the residents with pets. Two teams were working: Dr. Hanoi Dominguez with his sister in law, and Dr. Slavik Zenkov assisted by Yudith. Anton, one of the best volunteers was preparing animals for the surgeries, and Ingrid was making sure that all was clean wrapped up properly after the campaign was over. The owners were helping with animals in the recovery room. Each one of them also received pamphlets about health and social benefits of pet sterilization. We are hoping that they will share the information and their own experience with friends and neighbours.

Because of the amazing skills of doctors, and dedication of the whole team, all animals recovered without any complications. Everybody is looking forward to... the next campaign.

The "Hotline" Babies

Hope and Morris - adopted
Please meet a few recent rescues. Except for Jack, all of them are stray animals saved from difficult, life-threatening situations.  They were spotted by Canadian tourists who decided to make a difference. They receive medical attention and care before being adopted to their homes. They have been spayed or neutered by Dr. Slavik Zenkov.

Hermione - adopted
Angelo - rescued and fostered for a family in Canada

Missy - rescued and fostered for a family in Canada
Tia - adopted

Jack - rescued and fostered
Jack the pit-bull was found on the street abandoned by his owner, severely beaten and almost starved to death. He is a victim of an illegal dog-fight gambling. At first, he could not even lift his head. A caring Cuban family took him in and he was immediately examined by Dr. Slavik and given medication. Our supporters collected money for Jack - to help the fostering family and his caregivers: Dr. Slavik, Dr. Ponce and Ingrid.

Today, although still skinny, Jack enjoys his small walks and all the attention he receives. His total recovery will take time, but we hope that he will regain his strength and will find a permanent home where he will be loved as pet.
